The 30-year-old man accused of the murder of his 67-year-old father in Triadi, Thessaloniki, was found to be in custody after his apology to the 5th regular interrogator.
He had been charged with manslaughter with intent, as well as drug and weapons offences. The crime was discovered last Sunday when the victim’s daughter found her father dead in the semi-basement of the house where he lived. Upstairs, she found her 30-year-old brother who was reportedly in a state of confusion. He apparently confessed to killing their father the night before.
At the scene, officers found a screwdriver and a folding pocketknife, while a search of his room turned up clothing with traces of blood and two boxes of drug pills without the required prescription. The subsequent forensic examination revealed that the victim had multiple facial injuries. These wounds – reportedly more than 14, the majority of which appear to have been inflicted with the screwdriver and pocketknife.
In pleading before the investigating magistrate handling the case, the 30-year-old allegedly cited memory lapses. He reportedly said that he was in a state of psychosomatic disorganization due to the combined consumption of tranquilizer pills and drugs (hashish). Trying to recall the bloody episode, he noted that in no way was he guilty of homicidal intent.
As it became known, he described his relationship with his father as problematic, citing belittling and in some cases “violent behaviour” on his part. He said their relationship deteriorated after the loss of his mother six years ago.
The 30-year-old requested, through his counsel, a psychiatric expert examination, which was granted.
With the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor, he was found to be a temporary prisoner and was sent to prison.
