Criminal groups, nationals of Turkey, were allegedly to be supplied with weapons that were found by police officers of the Anti-Organised Crime Sub-Division B. Greece, during an operation carried out last Saturday afternoon in areas of Thrace, which led to the arrest of two people, 29 and 43 years old.
In the course of the operation, which was organized after gathering information on the illegal importation and trafficking of weapons in the country, the police officers located and immobilized a vehicle in which one of the two accused was travelling.
As stated in a statement by EL.AS, during the search of the car, a travel bag with 25 pistols and the same number of magazines was found in the trunk. According to the same statement, the guns were packed in clear nylon packaging and did not bear manufacturer’s markings or other identifying marks, which classifies them as so-called “ghost guns.”
The preliminary investigation revealed the involvement of the second person, who was arrested with the assistance of the Alexandroupolis Sub-Directorate of Investigation and Detection. According to police, the second accused had allegedly handed over the vehicle and the weaponry to the driver who was initially arrested.
A total of 25 pistols and an equal number of magazines, five mobile phones, two SIM cards, and the vehicle used to transport the weapons were seized. The seized weapons will be examined by the Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigations of Northern Greece, while the two arrested persons will be taken to the relevant prosecuting authority.
The investigation continues to determine the full scope of the criminal activity and possible links to other cases of illegal arms trafficking.
