Scenes of horror were witnessed in Heraklion, Crete, in yet another serious incident of domestic violence, with the victim a 22-year-old woman who reported receiving death threats from her 26-year-old ex-partner.
The young woman said the man had not accepted their separation and had been systematically harassing her recently with constant phone calls and threats.
The tension came to a head on Thursday night, when – according to her complaint – the 26-year-old threatened to kill her, while she also spoke of attacks on her and her family.
“He was telling me he was going to shoot me, that he was going to hurt my parents and that he was going to put a grenade in the house,” the 22-year-old said.
Police mobilization
The young woman, frightened by the threats, immediately informed the authorities, who deemed that there was an immediate risk to her safety. As a precautionary measure, she was taken to the police station while officers continued to monitor the case.
During her removal, the 26-year-old allegedly continued to make calls and threats.
Finally, he was spotted outside the 22-year-old’s home, where he was arrested by police forces who rushed to the scene. Two knives, a kitchen knife and a traditional Cretan knife were found in his possession.
According to the complaint, he had allegedly admitted in the past that he had used violence on another partner.
Complaints and background
The 22-year-old’s mother said the 26-year-old had become particularly pushy after the breakup, with constant calls and threats to her daughter and the family.
The situation, she described, escalated when she was informed of the presence of a known family member in the house, which appears to have triggered a new round of threats.
According to reports, the 26-year-old is familiar to authorities, as he has been employed in the past for cases of threats and domestic violence. A case has been filed in the case for domestic violence, threats and weapons offences.
