“The EU appreciates Turkey’s efforts to de-escalate and find a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Iran,” Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says, following a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus problem were also discussed.
The Commission President announced via X that she had a “very good” telephone conversation with President Erdogan today, and went on to say:
“Turkey is a key partner in a region in turmoil. Our interests converge: keeping trade routes open, energy flows and supply chains stable. We will continue to work closely together on these priorities. The EU appreciates Turkey’s efforts to support de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution of the conflict with Iran. We also discussed the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus problem. We underlined the importance of EU-Turkey relations. The EU stands ready to support the UN-led process at all stages.”
