A personal trial completely changed his life, and instead of surrendering to pain, he managed to turn hardship into strength and contribution to society. Anastasios Tsiou, after a serious motorcycle accident in which he lost his leg, decided not only to stand up again, but also to give hope and support to people who face difficulties in their daily lives. Now a world champion and Paralympic shot put champion with outstanding distinctions, he and his partners, through his “Symadi-zo” team, promote awareness-raising actions on accessibility, equality and empathy, sending the message that no one should be left behind.

Speaking about the difficult period after the accident, Anastasios Tsiou confides that, “after the accident, everything in my life changed, from my daily life to the way I saw myself and my future. There were very difficult moments, full of fear, anger and uncertainty. It took time to accept the new reality and to rebuild myself mentally and physically.”

He says that the people who stood by him and the sport played a crucial role in his effort, “what gave me strength to continue was first my people, my family and those who stood by me without letting me give up. From there, I found strength through sport. Sport became a way for me to believe in myself again, to set goals and prove to myself, most importantly, that life doesn’t end after a hard time.”

Today, he says, he sees life differently, as he underlines, “difficulties have made me a stronger person. I learned to appreciate life more, the small moments and to never stop fighting” and referring to the creation of the “Symbadi-zo” association, he explains that, “the main objective is to support people who face obstacles, whether they are related to disability or social difficulties. We want to pass on the message of equality, accessibility and human dignity. Above all, ‘Symadi-ze’ was created to remind us that no one should be left behind and that when people come together and support each other, they can overcome a lot.”

This coming Sunday, May 24, the club will hold awareness-raising activities in Skydra with the participation of little Leandrou, a child who has already touched many with his strength of soul. Leander is a child with strength of soul and optimism, who managed to overcome a difficult battle with a brain tumour at the age of only 2.5 years old, but lost his sight. Today, through the inclusion club “Act Now”, he promotes acceptance, equality and respect for people with disabilities, proving every day that diversity is power.

Anastasios Tsiou speaks with special emotion about him, “Little Leander is for all of us a symbol of strength, a pure soul and hope. His presence in next Sunday’s actions is not only symbolic, it reminds us why it is worth fighting for a society with more love, acceptance and inclusion.”

“Through his story we can learn that sometimes the greatest life lessons come from young children. Leander shows us what it means to face difficulties with a smile, a pure heart and strength of soul. He also reminds us that diversity is not a weakness but something to be embraced and respected.”

Anastasios Tsiou, wanting to send his own message to those who are experiencing difficult moments in their lives, urges them, “first of all, to give time to themselves and not be pressured to look strong at every moment. When life changes abruptly, it is normal to have fear, anger and frustration. It is not weakness to break down, weakness is to stop trying. A difficult moment does not define who they are, nor how far they can go. No one is alone as long as there are people by their side to support them.”
