A small aircraft crashed today southwest of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, killing all 14 people on board, the country’s civil aviation service said.

Communications with the aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation, were lost while it was en route from Yei to Juba International Airport.

The aircraft took off at 9.15am local time and the control tower lost contact with it about half an hour later at 9.43am. The aircraft was carrying the pilot and 13 passengers, two of whom were Kenyans and the rest South Sudanese.

Based on initial investigation findings, the crash may have been caused by poor weather conditions and low visibility.
