The Israeli army said its soldiers killed six pro-Iranian Hezbollah fighters in a southern Lebanese village today during an exchange of fire.
The army said soldiers located six members of the Shiite group in the village of Bid Jebail, an area where fierce fighting raged before a ceasefire went into effect on April 17.
“After detection, a fierce exchange of fire between the terrorists and soldiers began, during which the soldiers eliminated two terrorists,” the army clarified in a statement.
“The soldiers then struck the structure from which the terrorists were operating. The four remaining terrorists were eliminated,” according to the same source.
Today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of trying to “undermine” peace efforts between Lebanon and Israel, the day after the two countries announced an extension of the ceasefire.
Since the war between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, the Israeli army took control of a strip of Lebanese territory some ten kilometers deep along the border.
