An alarm was raised by authorities in Karamanmaras, Turkey, when shots were heard fired at a school, prompting police and health authorities to be immediately mobilised and reports of injuries.

According to initial reports from Turkish media, the incident took place at the Ayser Chalik High School in the Onyxubat region, causing great concern among the local community and security authorities.

The prefect of Karamanmara said in a statement that “unfortunately there are victims”, without giving further details.

As reported by CNN Türk, “after reports of gunfire in front of the school, a call was made to Karamanmaras’ 112 emergency line.

Several ambulances and police teams were sent to the school. According to initial reports, the shooter first fired into the air in the schoolyard, then moved into the school and continued shooting. Initial reports from the area indicate that there are injuries.”

The incident comes a day after an armed attack on a school in Siverek, Sunliurfa, which heightens concerns about security at school facilities. Developments are being closely monitored and official announcements are expected from the relevant authorities.
