The winner of Hungary’s parliamentary election announced that he has asked President Tomas Souliuc to resign today during their first one-on-one meeting.
“I reiterated to him that in my eyes and in the eyes of the Hungarian people he is not worthy to embody the unity of the Hungarian nation, he is not capable of preserving respect for the laws (…),” Peter Magyar told reporters on his way out of the presidential palace, adding that if he does not leave, his government will amend the Hungarian constitution to remove him “like all the puppets appointed to key positions by the Orbán system.”
Peter Magyar said that Tamas Souliuk had informed him that he would convene the Hungarian National Assembly in early May and that at the inaugural session he would instruct him to form the new government, which would be in a position to be sworn in in mid-May or a little earlier.
Hungary’s President said the inaugural session of the new parliament could be held as early as May 4, after the long May Day weekend, but in reality the most likely dates are May 6 and 7, Peter Magyar explained as he left the Presidential Palace.
