Two US Navy destroyers sailed through the Strait of Hormuz today as part of a plan to remove mines from this critical channel for navigation and oil trade.

According to the US military command for the Middle East (Centcom), the two ships operated as part of “a broader mission” aimed at ensuring that sea mines laid by the Revolutionary Guards are removed from the Straits.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced in a post on the Truth Social platform that “the process of unblocking” Hormuz had begun.

“We are now beginning the process to clear the Strait of Hormuz, doing favors for countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and many others. It’s incredible, but they don’t have the courage or the will to do it on their own,” Trump wrote.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the ships that passed were two destroyers.

However, a senior Iranian official, quoted by Iranian state television, denied these reports.

In his post, Trump also attacked the media for, he claims, writing that Iran is winning the war “when in fact the whole world knows it is losing badly.”

“The only thing they (the Iranians) have as a trump card is the threat that a ship might hit one of their sea mines,” he admitted, but claimed that all 28 of the Iranian navy’s minefields are “at the bottom of the sea” after the US bombings.
