At a critical geopolitical juncture, with the situation in the Middle East still tense and Euro-Atlantic relations going through an extremely difficult phase, Emmanuel Macron will pay an important visit to Athens in the coming days.
Political diplomatic, defence and military cooperation between Athens and Paris has been greatly enhanced in recent years, as evidenced by both the Rafale and Belharra procurement and the close relationship between Emmanuel Macron and Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In this context, the French Presidency announced today (11.04.2026) that the French leader will pay an official visit to Athens on 24 and 25 April 2026.
The agenda of the visit includes, among other things, the renewal of the Greek-French Strategic Partnership Agreement for Defence and Security Cooperation.
It is reported that this defence agreement was signed in September 2021 and was a document of strong commitment on the part of France at a time of very high tensions in Greek-Turkish relations and came into force in December of the same year.
Also, the two sides are to sign an agreement to further promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation in innovation and defence technology development projects.
