A rape case has shocked Italy, specifically the football world, as three former players of third division side Bra, who play in the third division, have been charged with raping a student.

More specifically, the Italian authorities are focusing on current Ligorna (Serie D) striker Alessio Rosa. Along with him, 23-year-old Fausto Perseu and 20-year-old Crist Gizus Mawete, who play for Giulianova and Livorno respectively, are also under investigation.

Following a complaint from a female student, Asty prosecutors are investigating whether on the night of May 30, 2025, the three players, who were then celebrating Bra’s promotion to Serie C, gang-raped her.

The young woman was allegedly intoxicated on the night for which she accuses the three athletes. She accepted Perseus’ proposal and was found in the apartment, where the other two athletes were with him.

According to Italian reports, there is also recorded footage. Indeed, in one video one of the three players says to her “I hope you don’t come out and say I made you come up”, with the student replying “I’m not saying anything.” A day later, the young woman made a formal complaint.

Authorities allege that Rosa recorded and disseminated photos and videos of the sex acts in private conversations, with that evidence weighing heavily on the outcome of the case.

Defense attorneys for the three players categorically deny the charges, claiming they are innocent.
