Donald Trump yesterday (Thursday) launched a verbal attack, particularly fierce, on various forms of the American radical right in the media, some of which are known for espousing conspiracy theories, for opposing the war launched by the president of the US, along with his country’s main ally in the Middle East, Israel, against Iran.
“I know why Tucker Carlson, Megan Kelly, Candice Owens and Alex Jones (….) find the prospect of Iran, the number one state supporter of terrorism, getting nuclear weapons wonderful,” said the Republican billionaire via Truth Social. “Because they have one thing in common: they have a lowIQ. They are idiots,” he added.
The four influential conservative commentators have publicly and strongly expressed their opposition to the US-Israeli war on Iran, seeing it as a defiance of President Trump and his isolationist “America First” slogan. They accused him, more or less, of ordering the war to begin because of pressure from Israel.
These postings are if nothing else evidence of a split in the Republican base. A poll conducted by YouGov for The Economist magazine in recent days suggested that 22% of those who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 oppose war on Iran, yet 71% are in favour.
All four were “thrown off television, lost their shows, and now they’re not even invited on the set because nobody cares what they have to say, they’re unhinged, they’re troublemakers,” Donald Trump said, with the last two descriptions written in all caps before including each of them personally.
Tucker Carlson and Megan Kelly are former Fox News anchors favored by the American right. They now do their own, independent shows that air mostly via social networking sites. Donald Trump has deemed that the former, who has for years criticized US support for Israel, should go see a “psychiatrist.”
He also criticised conspiracy theorist Candice Owens for “accusing the first lady of France, who is highly respected, of being a man”, adding that he “hopes” that Brigitte Macron will win large monetary damages when a court in the U.S.U.S. will hear her lawsuit and claim against the infidel.
Candis Owens, a figure of “black conservatism” in the US, for some years a passionate supporter of President Trump, is accused of spreading – and making money from advertising – the improbable theory that President Emmanuel Macron’s wife was “born a man”
Following Donald Trump’s threat on Tuesday that he would “annihilate” “Iranian civilization” forever, Candice Owens called the president of the US “insane” with intent to commit “genocide” and advocated for his removal from office — a position that was echoed by some members of the US Congress, almost all of them in opposition.
Reacting to President Trump’s verbal barrage (and) against her, she opinedthat “maybe it’s time to send Grandpa to a nursing home.”
