Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today that he has instructed his Cabinet of Ministers for “direct negotiations” with Lebanon “as soon as possible”, with the disarmament of the Shiite group Hezbollah as a key issue.

“Following repeated requests by Lebanon to open direct negotiations with Israel, I instructed the cabinet yesterday (Wednesday) to open direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible,” the Israeli Prime Minister informed.

“The negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon,”

he added.
