Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam today asked his Pakistani counterpart to confirm that the Iran-US ceasefire includes Lebanon, a day after unprecedented Israeli strikes killed more than 200 people.
In a telephone conversation between the two prime ministers, Salam “welcomed the efforts” of Islamabad for a ceasefire and asked for confirmation that the agreement included Lebanon to avoid a repeat of “Israeli attacks”.
“Pakistan has made sincere efforts for regional peace and it is in this spirit that the peace talks between Iran and the US are being organised,” said a statement issued by Sharif’s office, condemning “Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon”.
The Pakistani Prime Minister had announced on Tuesday night into Wednesday that Iran, the US “as well as their allies” had accepted the ceasefire everywhere, “including Lebanon”. But Israel and the US denied that the agreement also covers Lebanon, which is being pounded by the Israeli army.
Following Paris and London, European diplomacy chief Kaya Kalas also said today that the ceasefire should “include Lebanon”.
