US President Donald Trump said the US would escort ships to cross the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, in an interview with Fox News that aired today, and added that Washington would hit Iran “very hard over the next week”.
When asked if the US would offer assistance to tankers passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, Trump replied, “We would if we had to, but, you know, I hope things go very well. We’ll see what happens.” He gave no other details.
“We’re going to hit them very hard over the next week,” the U.S. president added, referring to Iran in an interview on “Fox & Friends.”
