Iran has approved the transit of ships carrying essential goods to its ports through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a letter cited today by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

The letter suggests that ships are heading to Iranian ports, including those in the Gulf of Oman, stressing that ships should coordinate with the authorities and comply with the protocols established for crossing the straits, Tasnim reported.

Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 1/5 of the world’s oil trade is disrupted, in retaliation for the US and Israeli air bombings that began on February 28.
