Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that he has ordered the Israeli army to “expand the security zone” in southern Lebanon, where it is conducting operations against pro-Iranian Hezbollah.

“In Lebanon, I have just ordered the further expansion of the existing security zone in order to definitively neutralize the threat of invasion and remove anti-tank missile fire from the border,” Netanyahu said in a video message from the Northern Command, while promising to radically change the security situation in the region.

“We are determined to radically change the situation in the north,” he said, adding that the aim of the decision is to strengthen Israel’s security along the northern border amid ongoing tensions along Israel’s northern border, where cross-border hostilities are raising fears of a wider regional escalation.
