France today condemned Houthi attacks on Israel, denouncing an “irresponsible action” that “increases tensions in the region”
“The Houthis must refrain from any attack,” Pascal Confavre, a spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry, said today, urging that everything possible be done “to avoid a further escalation of the conflict.”
The Houthis in Yemen claimed responsibility for two attacks on Israel on Saturday, marking the entry of these Tehran-allied rebels into the Middle East conflict.
At a time when global maritime traffic is being severely disrupted by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the Houthis’ entry into the conflict could further exacerbate the situation: the group carried out numerous attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea between 2023 and 2025, during the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
