Five people were injured today in fires that broke out in an industrial zone in the United Arab Emirates following Iranian missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) attacks, according to authorities.

“The United Arab Emirates’ air defense and fighter aircraft are operating to intercept the missiles and drones launched by Iran,” the UAE Ministry of Defense said in a post on X.

The Abu Dhabi government said in a statement that two fires broke out in the industrial zone of Khalifa, on the Emirati coast, caused by debris from the “successful interception” of a ballistic missile.

“Authorities confirm that five people of Indian nationality were injured in this incident, whose injuries range from moderate to minor,” the government subsequently clarified in a separate statement.

The UAE, a close US ally and one of the few Arab countries that have normalised relations with Israel, has been a key target of missiles and drones launched by Iran at its neighbours in the Gulf since the outbreak of war on February 28.
