Iranian authorities have decided to allow teenagers up to the age of 12 to join the ranks of volunteers patrolling Tehran, an official said today.

“The whole world wishes to contribute to the resistance front against the global tyrant (ed. wording referring to the US) and we have a very large number of volunteers among the youth,” said Rahim Nadaly, a Revolutionary Guards cadre, speaking on television.

Since the start of the war, Iranian security forces have been multiplying checkpoints in Tehran to prevent any anti-regime protests. Responsible for these reinforced controls are the Basij, the “mobilization force” consisting of some 600,000 volunteers throughout the country.

According to Nandali, “many young people and teenagers want to participate” in missions undertaken by the Basij, such as “collecting security data and patrolling.”
