Donald Trump made a statement with a clear political message, asserting that Iran has agreed never to acquire nuclear weapons.
The US president, speaking to reporters, stressed that the talks are heading in a positive direction, noting that Iranian negotiators are “talking reasonably” with the United States. At the same time, he made clear that not acquiring nuclear weapons is a key condition for any deal.
“I don’t want to say this in advance, but they agreed that they will never acquire a nuclear weapon,”
Referring to the attitude of the Gulf countries during the crisis, Trump was particularly positive, making special mention of the United Arab Emirates, which he described as “excellent”, while noting that Qatar was “wonderful”.
He stressed that the United States had “won the war” and said the Iranians had offered him a “very important prize” involving oil and gas linked to the Strait of Hormuz. “It was a very big gift worth a huge amount of money… so it meant one thing to me. We’re dealing with the right people,” he said.
As for the situation in Iran, Trump argued that US-Israeli operations have led to regime change, noting that the new group of leaders is under consideration: “We killed all their leadership, and then they got together to choose new leaders, and we killed all of them. Now we have a new team. Let’s see how it develops.” Despite the statement of agreement, he clearly stressed that “I don’t trust anyone.”
