Iran will retaliate against any attack on the country’s electricity sector by targeting Israeli power plants or units that supply electricity to US bases in neighboring states, a Revolutionary Guards statement released today said.

The announcement appears to retract the threat to target desalination plants in regional states, absolutely critical to the supply of drinking water to the Gulf states.

“The liar (…) US President claimed that the Revolutionary Guards intend to attack water desalination plants and cause suffering to the people of the countries of the region,” according to the statement carried by state media.

The day before Saturday, US President Trump warned that Iranian power plants could be targeted if Tehran does not “fully open” the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

“We are determined to respond to every threat at the same level” to achieve “deterrence,” the Revolutionary Guards added, explaining that if US-Israeli forces target the Islamic Republic’s power system, “we will hit” power systems.
