Japan’s fans gave a lesson in sportsmanship after their national team’s match against the Netherlands on Sunday (6/14) as part of the 2026 World Cup.
After watching Crystal Palace F.C. midfielder, Daichi Kamada, score in the 89th minute and secure a valuable draw for their team, Japanese fans once again set their own unique example of good behavior.
With trash bags in hand, they remained in the stands after the final whistle and made sure to clean up the area around them, demonstrating in practice the values of respect, discipline, and social responsibility that characterize their culture.
As one of Japan’s female fans explained in a video released by FIFA, this behavior is part of their everyday mindset:
“This is our culture. We respect people, the players, the fans, and the stadium.”
He added: “It is an honor for us to be here. We don’t want to leave trash and mess behind. That’s why we clean up the area before we leave.”
